Jodie is a gay film and television writer based in South Wales who was recently one of nine UK writers to win a place on the the ScreenSkills and DANDI Regional Breakthrough Writers programme. The scheme, funded by ScreenSkills High-End TV Skills Fund with contributions from UK high-end TV productions, aims to support emerging writers to gain their first HETV credit. She is partnered with LA Productions and will spend the next six months in paid development working on an original idea with them.
Her TV pilot 'Mouse Circus' is on the 2022 Brit List and is in development with Boom and as well as being one of the 2022 Edinburgh TV Festival's Ones to Watch, she was also part of 2019/2020 BBC Writersroom Welsh Voices. She is also working on a book adaptation for Atlantic Nomad/Sprout Pictures and was recently in a writers' room for Strong Film and TV. Her recent Casualty episode, 'Confidence and Paranoia', won the RTS award for Continuing Drama.
Her feature script 'Spring Tide' was one of twelve projects selected for the global Attagirl development lab where it was awarded the development prize grant.
Her work has been performed on stage, screen and radio, and her short films have been shown at BIFA and BAFTA-qualifying festivals. She has extensive editorial experience and has worked as a storyliner, story editor and script editor, including on BAFTA, RTS and Rose d'Or winning episodes. She also holds a BA and MA in Creative Writing.
Jodie is drawn to narratives with an unlikely hero, particularly LGBTQ+, older, or female protagonists. Her work is often dark with a comedic edge and she enjoys finding the humour in classically serious subjects.
She is represented by Matt Connell and Maddie O'Dwyer at Berlin Associates.
